I am working on a project at the moment called WALK and I have chosen to focus on the area on Peckham. I am aiming to make a publication that will be a kind of guide. But I have been focusing on details and patterns on a walk through Peckham. I am interesting in the way details in architecture and nature resemble patterns. So i have also been looking at patterns and textiles, especially african textiles because that is a big feature in Peckham. So this is some stuff I've been working on so far.

This is the work I entered for our 2nd year show 'Fact and Fiction 3'

I decided to put in my work from the Fact project, from earlier on this year, about squids chromatophore. It was on before our fundraiser club night FRESH PRINTS, at the Amersham Arms. I helped hang the show and it was all a success.

I also made a animation for the projector.

I am going to take what worked and what I enjoyed from the 'fact' project (the I put in the exhibition). Make animations explaining facts using visual metaphors. So just working through ideas with some very quick rough animations.

This is my final design for my James and the Giant Peach cover.

I am quite happy with it, I prefer the painting of my previous post but decided to have more of the tree on the front cover, because when its a book your less likely to see it as a whole image. I also thing it's quite an obvious composition and some of my other ruffs might have been more interesting. But I think I have really developed my work though doing this project.

Some of the drawings and animations I've doing recently are quite geometric and architectural so I started thinking about projecting on to 3D objects, maybe reacting to the building that the events at. So I'm going to rent a projector and do some tests.

But I also found loads of video of visuals that have already done is similar thing, so I have also been researching how they have done this:

For the last month I've been working on the FACT project. We were asked to choose a fact. i started by looking at squid, I have been intested in squid for a while and think they are amazing creatures. I then chose to focus of how squid use chromataphores to change colour and why.

Each chromataphore contains a pigment. Most squid have pinks, reds, and yellow pigments.

They use it to camouflage , by making them bigger or smaller to match suroundings.

When they change colour it happens in a wave/ brush strake across them.

They can also use it to comunicate. making the chromataphores really bigger when distressed, making them look bright red.

The reason why they chage colour in a wave, is because the conections in the brain are aranged in the same pattern as the chromataphores, so as connections are made in the brain the same thing happens on the skin.

This is the usual pattern for the chromataphores but in grayscale.

To change colour the, the elastic sacs the hold the pigment distory with muscualr contraction.

'In 1898, the steamship Valdivia left Hamburg for a nine month scientific voyage to the Atlantic, Indian and Great Southern oceans [map]. Known as the German Deep-Sea Expedition, the mission was led by Leipzig University Professor of Zoology, Carl Chun and investigated chemical, zoological and physical characteristics encountered in the oceans during the voyage.

The Valdivia was equipped with state of the art biological and chemical laboratories, a first-class scientific library and ample storage space for marine specimens collected while at sea. With these specialist ship fittings and overall expedition objectives as well as vessel size, theValdivia resembled the famous HMS Challenger from the 1870s, which had essentially established oceanography as a scientific discipline.

And like the Challenger expedition, the German Deep-Sea Expedition gave rise to an extensive series of post-voyage scientific publications. Professor Chun contributed a book on cephalopods (with a corresponding illustration/photograph atlas) to a multi-volume work called'Wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse der deutschen Tiefse eexpedition auf dem Dampfer Valdivia'(From the Depths of the World Sea: Descriptions of the German Deep Sea Expedition).

In 1975, the Israel Program for Scientific Translations (in association with the Smithsonian Institution) arranged for the publication of the Professor Chun cephalopoda volumes in English for the first time.'

I really like adrian tomine's comics. I think he shows a narrative and the atmosphere really well in just a few images. I have already posted the 'drop' comic but I think is's really reletive for the fiction project I'm doing. A lot of his storys are normally longer, but I think you get a really felling of falling and unknown from so little; only 4 images and almost all black.

This is my piece I entered for our first year show. The first year ba illustration at camberwell end of year show was split between house gallery and the crypt in camberwell last week.

I took part in the show at house, the title was 'property of' based of the different definitions of the word property in relation to camberwell. So my piece is about the population of camberwell: 37,000. So every dot represents a person.

my brother visited me for the weekend. we walked round london and went to see the st.patrick's day celebrations

and we went to the natural history musium to see the spirit tour but it was booked up, so we ended up going to 'The Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2010'. which was very good. i would definitely recommend it.

In the group work we have been doing we were asked to make a society and produce a manifesto for it. we decided not to make a conventional book because of the back story we made for our society and the world they live in. The manifesto contains our rules and beliefs.

Each page is screen printed on to A5 pieces of fabric. We set a size all the image would be and a boarder so they all linked. We also dyed all the fabric 20 different colours so each page is a different colour. we made 10 copys of the manifesto.

We have been given a project called author. We had to draw everything that was important to us, pick our 5 primary needs, then create a costume from it. Then we had to get into group relating to our needs/ costumes. Each group was give a word; ours was play.

I am in group with Peter, Scott, Brigid and Maelle. We set up a studio in peters house, with some white sheets and rented studio lights. This is me and scott in our costumes getting ready.

I first dicovered Jesper Waldersten in 'The Picture Book'. I find the Scandinavian artists simple continuous lines style really interesting. Pushing the simpisity to the limit so you can just define what it is. But within, such amazing detail, in the free flowing absract patterns. Making them look quite tribal. The patterns just pick out detail, drawing attention to it, but also drawing a strong contrast with the very plain areas.

Melody Sky is a film maker, photographer, artist and web designer. Main areas of work are snow sports and scuba diving. I love skiing so much, and
particularly like these photos, so that I've put them up. I wish i was as good as this and can imagine the thrill you would get. I think she has capture some amazing moments and the beautiful veiw just make the pictures.

This photographer has done a collection of underwater photos, they have a fashion photography style to them, but with children.

I much prefer the more abstract ones, especially this photo.

I love the clarity of the lower part of the photo, like a snapshot in time that you don't normally see. The child's face emerging through the bubbles. And the hazy surface of the water above.

It was also on her website in colour, but think the contrast in the black and white one work really well.

These are some drawings i found on finegarten.tumblr.com. There is a lot of sea life based images on there, which find really interesting. But also like this old fashioned diagram style. the way things are set out and organized on the page. I find skulls interesting to draw myself, so i think that why I like the skull drawing so much. I'm not sure what animal it's from, or even if it's really, but it's unusal looking.

I think this is one of my favourite photographs. I found it in Harry Benson's book I have; 'Fifty years in pictures'. This was taken in 1962/England, the school boy in the photo is called David Field. The caption below the photo reads; 'Field worked as a delivery boy to earn money for a class trip to Norway. At the last minute he stayed behind, giving the money to his mother, who was very ill. The plane crashed, killing all his classmates. I went his house the next day. His mother told me she had sent him fishing near their home. Self-serving as this may seem, I'll never forget editor-in-chief Ted Pickering saying this was the best photo on the picture page that Daily Express had ever published.'

Harry Benson take pictures of some very import and very famous people, through some very significant point in the last fifty years. But still, this is my favorite, which is fairly insignificant.

Along with the story behind this photo, it makes it very emotional. But even without the story I think it's an amazing photo, the dappled light is beautiful.

I really love her aboriginal style of drawing. The amount of detail is beautiful, with the traditional looking patterns. They are so graphic and all black and white, but at the same time very hand drawn looking.
